The City of Tshwane has announced a 32-hour water shutdown that will affect several areas in Hammanskraal starting Wednesday, 25 June. This planned interruption begins at 8:00 on Wednesday and lasts until 16:00 on Thursday, 26 June.
The affected areas include Stinkwater, Trustfarm, and New Stinkwater (RDP), where residents will be without municipal water during the repair period. The city has confirmed the shutdown is necessary to carry out critical work on a major pipeline supplying water from the Soshanguve DD Reservoir.
Water shutdown due to urgent repairs to fix a major leak
According to the city, urgent repairs must be made to stop major leaks along the pipeline. These leaks threaten the consistent supply of water to thousands of residents.
“This 32-hour shutdown is necessitated by the need to effect urgent repairs to major leakages on a main pipe that supplies water to Stinkwater from the Soshanguve DD Reservoir,” the City of Tshwane stated.
The City’s Water and Sanitation Department will oversee the repair work and ensure that supply is restored immediately upon completion of the operation.
Residents Urged to Store Water in Advance
The city has appealed to affected residents to prepare for the disruption.
“Residents in the above-mentioned areas are urged to store enough water for household purposes during this interruption period,” the city advised.
Although the municipality acknowledges the inconvenience, it says the shutdown is unavoidable and aims to prevent larger disruptions in future.
“The City of Tshwane apologises for any inconvenience caused by this inevitable shutdown,” the statement read.
