Five people were shot at the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Two of the five victims are confirmed dead, and three are injured from the incident.
The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Development expressed concern regarding the shooting. It said the incident was ongoing, with the police dealing with the situation.
“Deputy Minister Andries Nel is scheduled to proceed to the scene to assess the situation, while the ministry is awaiting further verified details from law enforcement agencies and court management,” spokesperson Samuel Modipane said.
Modipane added that the department has committed to providing prompt updates as they occur.
It said it would “work with the relevant security and law enforcement authorities to ensure that all necessary measures are implemented to safeguard court users and personnel”.
