One lucky South African is nearly R179 million richer this morning after scooping Tuesday night’s PowerBall jackpot, lottery operator ITHUBA has confirmed.
The winning ticket correctly predicted all five numbers and the bonus ball, securing a massive payout of R178 955 240.90, making it one of the largest jackpots in South African lottery history.

Winner not revealed
The winning PowerBall numbers drawn were 2, 3, 16, 17 and 35, with the bonus ball number 5.
The identity of the winner has not yet been revealed as at the time of publishing.
Following the historic win, the PowerBall jackpot has now reset to an estimated R5 million for the next draw, scheduled for Friday, 23 January.
PowerBall Plus Jackpot Rolls Over
Meanwhile, there were no winners in Tuesday’s PowerBall Plus draw, resulting in a rollover.
The jackpot for PowerBall Plus has now climbed to an estimated R6 million for Friday’s draw.
The PowerBall Plus numbers drawn were 1, 5, 7, 15 and 40, with the bonus ball number 4.
ITHUBA has reminded winners to sign the back of their tickets and present valid identification when claiming prizes, while urging players to play responsibly.
