MyCiTi is replacing its printed timetables at bus stops with scannable QR codes that link passengers directly to the latest, most accurate bus times.
The rollout began earlier this month, and will continue across routes where MyCiTi buses operate.
“Commuters will now be able to scan the QR code at bus stops, which will then load the latest times for that stop and the direction of travel via the MyCiTi website,” said Rob Quintas, the City of Cape Town’s Mayco member for Urban Mobility.
“Since our buses are tracked, passengers will be able to see the most accurate times based on the bus’s last known location.”
MyCiTi officials say the change is about reliability and convenience, and reflects a broader shift toward digital transport information.
Passengers who prefer the former options are not being left out. Bus times remain available on the MyCiTi website and mobile app. Commuters can also make a free call to 0800 65 64 63 for their latest bus times.
“The shift to digital bus times at bus stops will make it easier for passengers to always have access to the latest and most reliable bus times and service updates,” the City added.
MyCiTi drops travel card requirement – tap any bank card instead
In other developments on the bus rapid transit service, MyCiTi bus commuters can now ditch their dedicated myconnect travel cards entirely in favour of a more modern approach.
The City of Cape Town has been replacing all validators in its MyCiti buses and at MyCiti stations.
What follows is a simpler tap-to-ride system where commuters can use contactless bank cards. This marks a major step toward modernising Cape Town’s public transport network.
When will the old MyCiti validators be replaced?
The City began introducing new validators from 2 December 2025. The replacements are being done in phases and should be complete by the end of January 2026.
