Orlando Pirates news: Ouaddou contract details, Mofokeng leaving

After weeks of speculation, Orlando Pirates have named Jose Riveiro’s successor Abdeslam Ouaddou.

The former Marumo Gallants manager has some big shoes to fill. Following years of despair, the Buccaneers returned to their trophy-winning selves, lifting five domestic cups over three illustrious years under Riveiro’s command, who now finds himself at Ah Ahly.

According to reports, Orlando Pirates have penned a two-year deal with Ouaddou, keeping him at the club until June 2027 – if all goes to plan.

Exit inevitable?

Alarm bells are ringing around Soweto as several clubs show interest in 20-year-old phenom Relebohile Mofokeng. MLS side FC Cincinnati are the latest to be linked with the Bafana Bafana star. Egyptian giants Ah Ahly and Zamalek are reportedly also in the race.

Fuelling further speculation of last season being his last with Orlando Pirates’ is the players father, Sechaba, who said, “My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I’m praying every day. I don’t want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,” Sechaba, Mofokeng’s father, said

“[Whether it’s in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I’ll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia,” he added.

“Not yet. He’s still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won’t experience that. Yes, he’d be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you’re not happy, it’s worthless.”

Orlando Pirates are yet to comment on Mofokeng’s future.
