PSL transfer news: Appollis, Percy Tau, Serero, Basadien, Shalulile

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) will resume next month, but the transfer window has officially opened.

With many teams now officially in pre-season, expect a lot of activity in the transfer market. Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have been busy in the past few days bringing in players as they look to strengthen their squads.

Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns, on the other hand, just returned to the country having featured in the FIFA Club World Cup last month. The players are expected to get a three to four-week break however, expect the Downs management to release several players who are out of contract.

Which PSL players have made a surprise move during the transfer period?

Sipho Mbule’s move to Orlando Pirates surprised many, for sure. The talented midfielder was linked to rivals Chiefs while he was still at Downs, but as soon as he became a free agent, he was snatched by the Buccaneers.

Another surprise move was also Pirates announcing the signing of eight players. The Sea Robbers did not bring any new players during the last PSL transfer window but they did pay the prize after their poor finish to the 2024/25 season.

Players linked to several teams;

Percy Tau

The 31-year-old winger is a free agent after his short stint in Qatar. He has made it clear that he was open to joining top PSL teams if the offer made sense to him.

Fawaaz Basadien

The Stellenbosch talented left-back was on Kaizer Chiefs’ radar last season but it appears that the Soweto giants lost interest. Pirates and Sundowns can still push to sign the Bafana Bafana star.

Oswin Appollis

Every PSL transfer period, there’s always news about Appollis. The Polokwane City will surely leave Rise and Shine but the big question is where will he end up going?

Thulani Serero

With Cape Town City relegated, Cream’s future remains unclear. His return to the PSL was deemed a flop and it’s unlikely that any top team will go for him this transfer period.

Peter Shalulile

The Namibian striker is reportedly a free agent, but it remains to be seen if this is true.

Which of these players should be signed by the big Soweto giants?
