311 pieces of counterfeit Louis Vuitton ladies’ items confiscated

Police uncovered a major counterfeit fashion operation in Crown Mines, Johannesburg, on Monday, 30 June, seizing hundreds of fake Louis Vuitton ladies’ items. The City Deep Profile Team led the operation and confiscated 311 counterfeit products, with a total estimated street value of R10.8 million.

The raid followed detailed intelligence about a shipment originating from Durban. Officers traced the consignment’s movement to a warehouse in Crown Mines, where the fake designer goods were hidden.

“Acting on intelligence, the team tracked down a shipment from Durban,” stated the statement.

Louis Vuitton brand holders confirm fakes

To confirm the authenticity of the items, authorities enlisted brand representatives. After inspection, the goods were declared counterfeit.

The items included luxury handbags and accessories bearing the Louis Vuitton logo. The operation shows the increasing trend of counterfeit fashion infiltrating major South African cities, targeting unsuspecting consumers looking for high-end items at lower prices.

No Arrests Yet, But Investigation Continues

Although no arrests have been made, police say the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are now working to identify and apprehend those behind the operation. The seized items have been placed in secure storage while the case develops.

“The investigation is ongoing, with police working to apprehend those involved in the counterfeit operation,” a police spokesperson confirmed.
