The football community is mourning the loss of 28-year-old Liverpool star and Premier League winner Diogo Jota, who is reported to have been killed in a car crash in northern Spain.
It’s believed he was travelling with his brother Andre, 26, who is also a footballer, and is also feared dead.
In a truly heartbreaking set of circumstances, Jota’s death tragically came just two weeks after he married his childhood sweetheart and mother of his three children, Rute Cardoso.
His final post on Instagram shows a special video of the wedding, and is heartbreakingly captioned: ‘A day we will never forget.’
Jota also posted to social media platform X for the final time five days ago to celebrate his marriage, posting, ‘June 22, 2025. Yes, forever,’ alongside a selection wedding photos.
