Orlando Pirates news: Mofokeng and Saleng

Orlando Pirates seem on the brink of losing Monnapule Saleng and Relebohile Mofokeng.

The former hasn’t featured since December 7, while the latter continues to attract international interest, from MLS side FC Cincinnati to Egyptian giants Zamalek FC and Ah Ahly.

Mofokeng departure inevitable

Adding further speculation to an Orlando Pirates exit for Mofokeng is his father, who recently revealed that he wants him leave the PSL this offseason.

“My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I’m praying every day. I don’t want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,” Sechaba said

“[Whether it’s in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I’ll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia,” he added.

“Not yet. He’s still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won’t experience that. Yes, he’d be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you’re not happy, it’s worthless.”

Orlando Pirates have yet to mention Mofokeng’s future, but Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos believes he will leave.

“Talking about Mofokeng, I just hope that he makes the right decisions. And that he is not going to a team where he won’t play,” said Broos.

“I see all the things around, Barcelona and Rangers and… (sighs) I’m a little bit afraid. I just hope that the people around make the choice of the best sportive solution and not the best financial solution.

“Okay, I think his parents want the best for him, that’s for sure. But there is another guy who wants to win a lot of money also, but that’s the problem. But ok, let’s hope, maybe I talked too soon about that.

“We’ll see. I think in June, Rele will not be a player of Orlando Pirates anymore, but a good choice is very important.”
