Orlando Pirates new signing told to stay away from alcohol

Orlando Pirates new signing Sipho Mbula has been warned to stay away from alcohol and focus on his football.

Speaking to KickOff, former Bucs midfielder Steve Lekoelea has offered words of advice for the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns star.

Mbule has a reputation for indiscipline, and last season, allegations of alcohol abuse resurfaced while he was on loan at Sekhukhune United. The 26-year-old midfielder has experienced off-the-field incidents with the teams he has played for.

Lekoelea, who was also a bad boy during his playing days, says the new Orlando Pirates signing must concentrate on his football this season.

“Pirates have made a great signing with Sipho Mbule; he’s a good player now representing a big team,” Lekoelea told KickOff

“He needs to remain disciplined at all times, and he should take a break from drinking to focus solely on his football.

“As a player on a big team, he must steer clear of distractions. Based on what we have read about him, it’s important for him to distance himself from alcohol,” said the Pirates legend.

“He should concentrate on his football and aim to represent the national team. As a country, we need him in our football.”

Having been released by Sundowns, Mbule joined the Buccaneers as a free agent. He is part of the pre-season squad that will fly to Spain to play a number of friendly matches.

Can Mbule revive his career?
