Orlando Pirates news: Coulibaly, Rapoo, Mofokeng updates

Orlando Pirates are making major moves in the transfer market as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the new season. First up is Malian striker Adam Coulibaly, currently on the radar of both Pirates and Tunisian powerhouse Esperance de Tunis. The young forward is valued at around R13 million and has attracted interest across Africa following standout performances in West Africa.

Adding to the buzz, Pirates are also eyeing SuperSport United’s 20-year-old left-back Neo Rapoo. The youngster starred for South Africa’s U20 team during their Africa Cup of Nations triumph, and interest in his services has ballooned. While offers from clubs in Scandinavia and the Gulf have been floated, it’s the tug-of-war between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs that has set tongues wagging locally.

“With Paseka Mako gone and Innocent Maela retired, Pirates’ interest in Rapoo isn’t surprising,” said an insider. “He’s viewed as a future Bafana Bafana left-back. Chiefs are also watching closely due to ongoing issues in that position.”

Mofokeng future adds intrigue

Meanwhile, Relebohile Mofokeng’s future remains one of the hottest topics at Mayfair. Despite the arrival of Oswin Appollis from Polokwane City and Tshepang Moremi from AmaZulu, Orlando Pirates haven’t made an official statement on Mofokeng’s plans — though the writing appears to be on the wall.

International interest in the playmaker continues to mount, with FC Cincinnati, Zamalek, and Al Ahly circling. But it’s Mofokeng’s father, Sechaba, who’s made his wishes crystal clear.

“My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas next season,” he said. “Not in Saudi Arabia — he’s too young. He needs UEFA competition.”

Even Bafana coach Hugo Broos weighed in: “I hope he makes the right decision — one that benefits his development, not just his bank account.”

All signs point to change at Orlando Pirates — both in terms of new arrivals and potential high-profile exits.

Who should Orlando Pirates prioritise: Coulibaly or Rapoo?
