The long-awaited J-Bay 2025 event window opens this morning – Friday 11 July 2025. And runs until next Sunday 20 July 2025. The World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT) skipped South Africa last year, and the disappointment from competitors was palpable.
However, the excitement over the Corona Cero J-Bay 2025 event, from fans and CT surfers alike, couldn’t be higher. Especially for South Africa’s Jordy Smith, two-time J-Bay winner, who is currently ranked no.1 in the world and surfing in the coveted yellow jersey.
J-BAY 2025 PROMISES TO BE FIRING
All the CT surfers have been in Jeffrey’s Bay for nearly a week, tuning up on the iconic right-hand point break. Those who’ve surfed pumping J-Bay before already know how incredible it can be. And Corona Cero J-Bay 2025 rookies are frothing, hoping to catch the wave of their lives at the southern tip of Africa.
Over the decades, Jeffrey’s Bay has earned its place as one of surfing’s most revered destinations in the entire world. What makes J-Bay so extraordinary begins with its unique geography and complex wave mechanics. A very long, tall, fast, tubing right-hand point break that’s incredibly consistent in season (check out the explainer video above).
JEFFREY’S BAY HAS IT ALL

Moreover, unlike other one-dimensional waves, J-Bay 2025 will offer up several sections for CT surfers to work with. From the top of the point there’s Boneyards, Supertubes, Impossibles, the Point, and Albatross. Connect them altogether perfectly and you can have yourself a high-speed, two-minute-plus ride with huge carves and multiple barrels.
This unique mix of fast, racing walls and hollow, barreling sections, groomed by offshore winds, stems from winter storm swells generated in the Southern Ocean. When this energy meets the rocky J-Bay point, you get surfing perfection. As proven by Jordy Smith’s perfect-20 heat score back in 2017, when he scored two back-to-back perfect 10s! This has only been achieved eight times in competitive surfing.
PREVIOUS CHAMPIONS

Furthermore, the iconic wave has been the venue for some of surfing’s most dominant performances. Jordy Smith is undoubtedly a J-Bay specialist, having won his home event twice over the years. Likewise, the GOAT, Kelly Slater, can stake claim to four victories in South Africa. Plus, who can forget Mick Fanning’s encounter with a shark in the lineup?
Catch all the action live and for free on WSL’s YouTube channel. Competition organisers anticipate a possible start today, as swell starts to fill in from the South West. However, overhead surf is guaranteed tomorrow (Saturday 12 July 2025), so expect a full day of thrilling competition.
