Monnapule Saleng has paused his frustrating spell at Orlando Pirates, where game time dwindled due to off-field issues and strained relations with management.
The 28-year-old has been loaned to his former club, Orbit College. Saleng is expected to play a key role for Orbit in the upcoming season as they prepare to compete in their first ever season in the top flight.
Coach Pogiso Makhoye, who first discovered the Orlando Pirates attacker eight years ago, is thrilled to be working with him again. His excitement speaks not just to the player’s ability, but also to the father-son connection they created.

The return marks more than a tactical boost — it’s a full-circle moment in both their football journeys. “I’m very happy to have my son back,” Makhoye said via FARPost. “I still can’t believe it. I think I will believe it when I see him when we return to training on Saturday or when the club unveils him.
Serious advice for new Kaizer Chiefs star
“My relationship with Saleng goes back eight years. I discovered the boy when he was young. I brought him to Rustenburg. I worked with him for three years. That’s why I say he’s like a son to me. I made him the player he is today. No one knows this player more than me.
“He’s at the peak of his career. He needs to play more. He needs to go back to Bafana Bafana because he still has a lot to offer.

“He knows the team. He knows the culture. He’s been here before… I know he can play four positions up front. He can play on the right, on the left wing, as a 10 or as a striker. He scored lots of goals when he was here,” Makhoye concluded.
