SA to create cleaner cities- says Khumbudzo Ntshavheni

Minister in the presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, delivered her address on the 2025/26 Budget Vote. High on the agenda was cleanliness and correct spending of public funds. She said government is committed to creating cleaner cities, towns and villages through organised campaigns.

“To support the President’s initiatives to revitalise our cities, the Deputy President in August 2024 announced the Clean Cities, Towns and Villages Campaign,” said Ntshavheni.

When the campaign was launched, deputy president Paul Mashatile, said it was a nationwide initiative aimed at fostering cleaner, greener and more inclusive urban spaces.

CLEANER CITIES REQUIRE PUBLIC SUPPORT

Ntshavheni affirmed Mashatile’s sentiments and said the campaign will also improve service delivery by keeping the environment and surroundings clean.

She urged citizens to support the presidency so it can be strong. Ntshavheni believes a strong government machinery will lead to accelerated service delivery to the citizens on the ground.

“It requires a capable state, one with professional public servants, strong institutions and systems of integrity,” she continued.

CITIZENS FUNDING FURTHER DEVELOPMENT

She further announced that the budget allocated to the Presidency for the 2025/26 financial year is R 747.2 million.

“We know these funds come from the nation. It comes from businesses and individuals who play their part in our country’s development by paying taxes and levies that constitute the public purse,” she said.

She concluded by pledging to work judiciously with the funds and to ensure that they are spent in ways that government has committed to.
