The South African Police Service (SAPS) has received over 927 000 applications to join the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPLDP) as the recruitment window closes in less than 24 hours.
This marks a significant surge in interest for the limited 5 500 training positions available.
Women Lead in Application Numbers
Female applicants dominate the numbers, with 527 673 young women applying, while male applicants total 400 204.
Gauteng province tops the list with more than 240 000 applications, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with over 179 000.
Limpopo and Eastern Cape provinces have also contributed substantially, with more than 102 000 and 93 000 applications respectively.
Provincial Breakdown of Applications
Mpumalanga submitted over 89 000 applications, Western Cape over 76 000, and Free State more than 64 000.
North West province registered over 57 000 applications, while Northern Cape recorded the fewest with more than 22 000 applicants.
Driver’s Licences and Selection Process
So far, 261 255 applicants hold a valid South African driver’s licence.
However, not all applicants will progress to the next stage due to the limited number of training spaces.
Successful candidates will undergo psychometric, integrity, physical, and medical assessments, along with interviews.
The SAPS wishes all applicants the best in the selection process.
