Kaizer Chiefs fans hoping to see Sipho Mbule don the gold and black may need to pump the brakes. Football agent Mike Makaab has dismissed swirling reports that link the out-of-contract midfielder with a move to Naturena ahead of the 2025/2026 Betway Premiership season.
Mbule parts ways Downs: Chiefs move in sight?
Mbule officially cut ties with Mamelodi Sundowns just over a week ago. His contract with the Brazilians expires on 30 June 2025, but Sundowns chose not to trigger a two-year extension clause. The club reportedly passed on the option due to ongoing concerns about the 27-year-old’s off-field conduct.
Sundowns had signed Mbule in 2022 from rivals SuperSport United, expecting big things from the player. However, his spell at Chloorkop delivered limited returns.
Rocky road at Sekhukhune
During the most recent season, Mbule joined Sekhukhune United on a season-long loan, hoping to revive his form and gain regular minutes. He started brightly under coach Lehlohonolo Seema, tallying 17 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice, and registering three assists.
But disciplinary issues cut his stint short. Reports alleged that Mbule arrived at training under the influence of alcohol, an incident that cast further doubt on his professionalism.
Mbule’s agent slams Chiefs rumours
Following his Sundowns exit, speculation exploded across social media and supporters forums, with many tipping Mbule for a surprise switch to Kaizer Chiefs. However, his agent, Mike Makaab, has firmly shut down the rumours.
“I don’t know where the talk about Sipho Mbule joining Kaizer Chiefs is coming from. The rumours are simply not true,” Makaab said, as quoted by FARPost.
“No club has formally approached us about signing Mbule. We’re currently exploring the best opportunities to secure his next move.”
While Amakhosi may not be in the running, for now, Mbule remains a high-profile free agent. Despite his inconsistencies, his talent continues to attract attention from several Premiership sides.
Will Kaizer Chiefs circle back with a formal offer? Or will another club snap up the gifted yet controversial midfielder?
