In a significant upgrade aimed at enhancing family viewing experiences, MultiChoice has announced that DreamWorks, Nickelodeon, and Nick Jr. will be added to its DStv Family package, effective Monday, 25 August 2025.
The move solidifies the offering as South Africa’s ultimate destination for kids’ entertainment.
DStv Family is R339 per month for users who want to access it through a decoder or R299 per month for a streaming-only package.
The addition of the three globally renowned kids’ channels follows MultiChoice’s strategy to offer more content value in its mid-tier packages, responding to growing demand from families for safe, educational, and high-quality children’s programming.
What’s New on the Family Package
The newly added channels are household names:
- DreamWorks: Known for animated blockbusters like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon, DreamWorks will bring high-energy, imaginative storytelling to children of all ages
- Nickelodeon: A long-time favourite among tweens and teens, Nick features hit shows such as SpongeBob SquarePants, The Loud House, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Nick Jr.: Geared toward preschoolers, Nick Jr. offers trusted titles like Paw Patrol, Dora the Explorer, and Blue’s Clues, blending fun with fundamental learning
With these additions, DStv Family now offers 14 dedicated kids’ channels, in addition to a variety of family-friendly content across genres.
Smarter Viewing, More Value
The DStv Family package allows streaming on multiple devices, letting children watch on phones or tablets while parents enjoy separate programming.
This flexibility, paired with the platform’s DStv Stream app, makes the service more convenient for modern households.
DStv has also highlighted that the Family package continues to grow in value.
Earlier in 2025, channels like Comedy Central, HGTV, and Disney Channel were added.
Now, with the inclusion of these premium kids’ channels, the package presents one of the most competitive offers in South Africa’s pay-TV market.
With increasing competition from streaming platforms like Netflix and YouTube, MultiChoice’s recent upgrades demonstrate its commitment to retaining subscribers through content-rich, value-driven packages.
