KwaZulu-Natal will see partly cloudy conditions with scattered showers along the coastal regions, while inland areas remain warm. The South African Weather Service has issued a marine warning for rough seas, with damaging waves posing navigation difficulties.
Hot weather in other parts, coastal rainfall and showers
According to forecaster Phemelo Zonke, rain will persist along the coastline, stretching into the interior. “Isolated showers are expected over Durban, East London, and Port St. Johns, with maximum temperatures around 22°C,” Zonke explained.
Despite occasional showers, much of the interior will experience mild to warm weather.
Marine Warnings for Rough Seas
Zonke highlighted that damaging waves could impact navigation along KZN’s coastline.
“Damaging waves are forecast along the southern coastal regions, making navigation difficult at sea,” he said.
The weather warning comes as the cold front pushes strong north-westerly winds into the southern oceans.
Fire Hazards in the Interior
Despite the rain along the coast, KZN’s interior faces fire concerns due to dry and windy conditions.
Zonke urged vigilance, stating: “High fire danger conditions remain in the northeastern parts of the province, where runaway veld fires are possible.”
Residents are advised to remain cautious near open fields and avoid activities that may ignite fires, while coastal communities must prepare for unsettled sea conditions.
How should KZN balance preparations for coastal storms?
