LIST | Citroën, Nissan and Ford recall vehicles over ‘life-threatening’ defects

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a recall advisory following safety concerns identified in several models from Citroën, Nissan and Ford, warning motorists to act swiftly to prevent potential injuries – or even fatalities.

The affected models span from 2009 to 2025, and the recall has been classified as ‘voluntary, but urgent‘, due to the nature of the defects uncovered.

Models Affected and Risks Identified

🔵 Citroën C4, DS4, DS5 (2009–2016)

  • Manufacturer: Stellantis South Africa
  • Issue: Defective airbag inflators
  • Risk: Inflators may rupture during deployment, releasing metal fragments into the cabin – potentially causing serious injury or death.

🔵 Nissan Qashqai (September 2021 – April 2024)

  • Issue: Faulty HR13 Non-Alis EGI harness battery connection
  • Risk: A loose retaining nut could increase resistance, leading to excessive heat build-up, raising the potential for fire or component failure under certain conditions.

🔵 Ford Vehicles (Various Models)

1. Mustang, Everest, Ranger, Transit Custom (2021–2025)

  • Issue: Infotainment system freeze
  • Risk: Black screens and malfunctioning rear-view cameras, affecting visibility and driving safety.

2. Mustang, Everest, Ranger, Ecosport (2019–2023)

  • Issue: SYNC system errors caused by short ignition cycles
  • Risk: Intermittent rear-view display issues, affecting driver awareness.

3. Ranger Wildtrak (2025)

  • Issue: Faulty transmission main valve body
  • Risk: Vehicle may fail to reverse or lurch forward while in reverse or neutral, triggering dashboard warning lights and posing collision risks.

What Should Vehicle Owners Do?

The NCC advises:

  • Check if your vehicle is affected via the manufacturer’s website or by contacting your dealership.
