Oops! Gayton’s old unpatriotic Springbok tweet resurfaces

Another embarrassing old tweet by Gayton McKenzie has resurfaced, and this one is about the Springboks.

The Minister of Sport, Art and Culture has recently come under fire after a series of racist social media posts, which include the K-word slur.

The Patriotic Alliance leader has claimed that the posts do not constitute hate speech.

GAYTON MCKENZIE’S OLD SPRINGBOK TWEET RESURFACES

On the X platform,  South Africans dug up the Minister of Sport’s old tweet about the Springboks.

Originally posted in 2015, Gayton – using the X [formerly Twitter] handle @G_xcon – posted: “May the Springboks be beaten today!”

Then switching to his @GaytonMck handle, the politician added: “They should come home”.

The Patriotic Alliance leader was referring to the Springboks playing at the 2015 Rugby World Cup. Despite Gayton wanting them to lose, the Boks beat Samoa 46 – 6.

The four-time winning World Cup team ended the tournament in third place, with New Zealand ultimately winning.

South Africa would go on to win back-to-back World Cups in 2019 and 2023.

PRAISE FOR PRIDE OF SA

Amid the social media commentary, Gayton McKenzie praised the Springboks for the victory against the Wallabies on Saturday, 23 August at Cape Town’s DHL Stadium.

He has not addressed his old tweet.
