Gauteng experienced a brisk morning as temperatures dipped into single digits across several areas. Johannesburg began the day at 12°C, while Pretoria recorded a minimum of 12°C and Mahikeng dropped to 9°C.
“It is chilly this morning for much of the interior, with temperatures below the five-degree mark in some areas,” said Joel Guy, a forecaster.
Warmer weather expected
Despite the cold start, residents can expect warmer weather later in the day. High-level clouds stretched across Namibia, Botswana, and into northern provinces, but clear skies are forecast by the afternoon.
“High clouds are expected later in the evening for much of the province, but daytime will remain sunny,” Guy explained.
Fire danger warning issued
The South African Weather Service has warned about high fire danger across much of the interior, including the Free State, North West, and parts of Gauteng.
“People should remain cautious as conditions are favourable for runaway fires,” Guy cautioned.
