Kaizer Chiefs offered R16 MILLION

Kaizer Chiefs could be packing their bags for Polokwane more often, after the local municipality tabled a R16 million deal to host six of their matches at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The offer to Amakhosi is a two-season arrangement that would see them play three home games during this Betway Premiership campaign and another three in 2026.

Each game is expected to pull thousands of Kaizer Chiefs fans into the city, filling up the 45,000-seater stadium that was built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Famous match against Mamelodi Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs have often turned the Peter Mokaba Stadium into a second home over the past five seasons. In 2020/21 they hosted Mamelodi Sundowns there in front of a big crowd, though they lost 3-0, before drawing 1-1 with Black Leopards in another lively fixture.

The following campaigns brought more highlights, including a 2-1 win over Marumo Gallants in 2021 thanks to Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly, and a goalless draw with Royal AM in 2022 that still packed the stands with over 30,000 fans.

SuperSport United and Sekhukhune United

In recent seasons, Kaizer Chiefs edged SuperSport United 1-0 through Ashley du Preez at the venue, and shared a 2-2 draw with Sekhukhune United after Edmilson Dove’s late strike. Each match proved the pull Amakhosi have in Polokwane, where supporters always turned out in numbers.
