Cool coastal and hot inland weather expected in KwaZulu-Natal

KwaZulu-Natal will experience a contrast in weather, with cooler temperatures near Durban and warmer conditions inland.

According to forecaster Mpho Rasimphi, coastal areas can expect highs around 21°C, while inland regions like Newcastle may see much hotter weather.

“Cooler conditions will persist along the coast, but further inland, hot temperatures are expected,” Rasimphi said.

Fire Hazards Remain

KwaZulu-Natal might face fire hazards like other central parts of the country due to dry, windy conditions. Rasimphi noted that August weather patterns make the province vulnerable to runaway fires.

“Those fires have been causing havoc because of windy conditions, and temperatures are increasing, so we need to be careful,” he warned.

Communities in rural and farming areas are urged to stay vigilant and notify authorities if they spot smoke or flames.

Despite chilly overnight temperatures, KwaZulu-Natal will see a moderate daytime rebound. Durban will remain cool with highs of around 21°C, while inland cities will record much warmer conditions, pushing close to 30°C.

As KwaZulu-Natal balances cool coastal breezes with hot inland weather and fire risks, how should communities prepare to protect themselves in the coming days?
