The Constitutional Court has handed down its judgment on the case seeking to allow men to adopt their wives’ surnames.
The court ruled that husbands are now permitted to take their wives’ surnames.
It also found that a section of the Births and Deaths Registration Act is unconstitutional, as it unfairly discriminates on the basis of gender.
