Kaizer Chiefs: R6-million midfielder becomes clubless

Kaizer Chiefs continue to make squad cuts.

Kaizer Chiefs have released a total of 11 players so far in the 2025/26 PSL transfer window.

This R6-million Amakhosi midfielder is now listed as a free agent.

R6-MILLION CHIEFS MIDFIELDER BECOMES FREE AGENT

According to leading reports, Edson Castillo is now a free agent.

“Amakhosi have chosen not to continue with the services of Tebogo Potsane, Ranga Chivaviro, Sabelo Radebe, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Edmilson Dove, Edson Castillo, and Bongani Sam,” the report read on KickOff.

So, if these reports are true, Castillo will become one of Chiefs’ most recent departures.

Multiple reputable outlets have reported on the Amakhosi midfielders’ release. Meaning, he is likely currently a free agent, and his departure is expected to be announced soon.

He is currently valued at over R6-million, according to TransferMarkt’s latest player evaluation.

AMAKHOSI RELEASE WHOLE TEAM WORTH OF STARS

Initially, Chiefs released Ranga Chivaviro.

Thereafter, Njabulo Blom and Sabelo Blom were released. Shortly after, Edmilson Dove and Mduduzi Mdantsane followed suit. Both players were deemed surplus to requirements by Nasreddine Nabi and Amakhosi management.

Then, Chiefs released ex-captain, Yusuf Maart signed for Austrian-based outfit, SV Reid.

Tebogo Potsane and ex-Orlando Pirates defender Bongani Sam become Amakhosi’s seventh and eighth respective departures.

More recently, Amakhosi decided to loan out this player to PSL rivals.

Finally, Chiefs have also let this club captain join a new team for the 2025/26 season.

Therefore, Chiefs have released a total of 11 players with NINE senior stars released and two DDC products having joined new teams for the 2025/26 season. However, one of them – Xolani Cossa, has been signed to the first team. He will play for Amakhosi’s senior side next season.
