Gayton McKenzie celebrates historic win in Eastern Cape

Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton McKenzie is celebrating a major victory for his party.

The PA made history in the Eastern Cape by winning Ward 1 in the Kou-Kamma Local Municipality, taking the seat from the African National Congress (ANC).

Betram Korkee was named the ward councillor, with the party securing 47.6% of the total votes amid a voter turnout of 56.06%.

Commenting on the victory, McKenzie said it was a testament that perseverance is power. He said that the win proved the ANC in the Eastern Cape can be defeated. He said that the PA is achieving what the Democratic Alliance (DA) could not by unseating the ANC.

“Your victory has proven that the DA is yesterday’s party among the people,” McKenzie said.

He also praised Korkee for the win, noting that the team demonstrated the power of collaboration and putting aside egos.

ANC CONTINUES TO LEAD

Despite the PA victory the ANC continues to dominate at the polls. According to the IEC dashboard for the 10 September by-elections, the ANC was leading in overall voter support with 43.65%.

Followed behind was the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) with 21.83%, and the PA with 10.75%. Despite this, the EFF has yet to secure a ward. The ANC continues to hold three wards across the Free State, Limpopo, and Gauteng.
