The FBI has announced a reward of up to 100 000 dollars (approximately R1.8 million) for information on the suspect who fatally shot right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
The shooting happened during a public event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.
Authorities urged anyone with photos, videos, or details about the incident to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
Charlie Kirk shooting
Kirk, 31, was speaking under a tent on campus when the gunman opened fire just after noon.
Dressed in a white T-shirt with the word “Freedom” on it, Kirk was answering a question when a bullet struck his neck. He collapsed in front of a large audience.
Former Utah congressman Jason Chaffetz, who attended the event, told Fox News that the shooting occurred as Kirk was addressing a question about “transgender shooters, mass shooters.”
A video clip later circulated showing Kirk falling as blood poured from his wound.
He was declared dead shortly afterwards.
Details of the Suspect
Investigators believe the shooter fired a single round from a high-powered bolt-action rifle positioned about 200 yards away, on the roof of a nearby building.
Officials said the killer lay prone to increase accuracy.
Security footage released by the FBI shows a young man wearing a baseball cap, dark clothing with an American flag and eagle design, and Converse-style shoes with white soles.
Investigators recovered palm prints from the building and later found the rifle abandoned in a wooded area near a car park.
Despite these findings, the gunman remains at large.
Ongoing Manhunt
Law enforcement agencies continue to search for the shooter, but officials admit progress has been slow.
Forensic evidence is being analysed across multiple crime labs. Utah Governor Spencer Cox warned that disinformation was spreading online about the killing, some of it linked to foreign actors.
“Our adversaries want violence,” Cox said, citing China as one of the countries allegedly exploiting the tragedy to fuel discord.
Will the FBI catch the shooter who killed Charlie Kirk before he strikes again?
