Oops! President Ramaphosa’s X account posts inappropriate pics

President Cyril Ramaphosa suffered an embarrassing social media blunder after his official X account posted inappropriate images of women.

The incident occurred on Friday, 12 September, during his address to the National Executive and the Provincial Executive Council of the North West.

CYRIL RAMAPHOSA POSTS X-RATED IMAGES ON X

On Friday morning, Cyril Ramaphosa’s X account was bombarded with x-rated images and videos of women.

Although the posts were swiftly deleted, screenshots of the posts taken by the public quickly went viral.

South Africans on social media were shocked at the sequence of events.

X user @Innocentstake posted: “World leaders, governments, and major institutions follow that account. It reflects poor oversight and weak security checks at the very highest level of our country’s authority”.

@Lisathe_first added: “What was the video doing in the President’s phone to begin with?”

A third, @uNokwandaLo shared: “What do we expect from Cupcake? Nothing surprising there”.

‘TECHNICAL GLITCH’, SAYS GOVERNMENT

After the posts were deleted, Cyril Ramaphosa’s X account – which boasts over 3 million followers – was temporarily disabled.

After resuming regular programming, the X account of the Presidency posted a statement describing the posts as a “technical glitch.”

It posted, “We are in the process of evaluating the source of the glitch, which appears to be a cross-feed that superimposes images on posts from the handle. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.”

WHERE DOES RAMAPHOSA’S ‘CUPCAKE’ NICKNAME COME FROM?

After the social media blunder, many South Africans referred to President Ramaphosa by his nickname, “cupcake”.

According to IOL, the term of endearment was given to the president in 2017, as seen in messages allegedly sent to him by multiple women amid allegations he was sleeping with and financing several young women.

In a leaked email, Ramaphosa – then running for the presidency – also allegedly used the term “cupcake” to describe one of the women.

In a sit-down interview with the Sunday Times, Ramaphosa admitted to having an affair with a woman from Limpopo.

He said, “I had a relationship with only one person, and it ended. I dealt with it with my wife. We now have a professional relationship.”
