US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that foreign nationals celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk will face deportation.
He said the State Department is reviewing visas of those seen condoning or celebrating Kirk’s death.
“We have no business inviting people who engage in negative and destructive behaviour. If they are already here, we should revoke their visas,” Rubio said.
Charlie Kirk’s assassination
Kirk, a 31-year-old ally of former President Donald Trump, was shot dead last week while addressing students at a university.
He was answering a question under a tent when a gunman fired a single shot that struck him in the neck.
Witnesses said he collapsed in front of a large audience and died shortly afterwards.
Details of the attack
Former Utah congressman Jason Chaffetz, who attended the event, told Fox News the shooting occurred while Kirk was answering a question about “transgender shooters, mass shooters.”
A video later circulated showing Kirk falling as blood poured from his wound.
Investigators believe the gunman fired from a high-powered bolt-action rifle about 200 yards away, lying prone on the roof of a nearby building to improve accuracy.
Security footage released by the FBI shows a young man in a baseball cap, dark clothing with an American flag and eagle design, and Converse-style shoes with white soles.
Trump Confirmed Arrest in Charlie Kirk Assassination Case
US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
Trump said the suspect was handed over to law enforcement by someone close to him.
“I think, with a high degree of certainty, we have him,” Trump said in a live interview with Fox News.
