An 8-hour planned power outage will affect 11 suburbs in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, and Saturday, 20 September 2025.
“The interruption is necessary to do maintenance work on our network, which is part of our programme of constantly striving to provide a better service,” mentioned City Power.
The outage will occur at Bekker Switching Station and at Heriotdale Substation.
SUBURBS AFFECTED BY POWER OUTAGE
These are the areas that will be affected by the power outage on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, from 9:00 to 17:00:
- Bekker Street between Le Roux and Allandale Road
- BP Filling Station
- Thornhill Office Park
- Waterfall Business Park
At Heriotdale Substation on Saturday, 20 September 2025, from 8:00 to 16:00, the power outage will affect these areas:
- Heriotdale
- Heriotdale Extensions 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9
- Doornfontein
- New Doornfontein
- Benrose Ext. 7
- Denver
- Denver Extensions 1 and 9
CITY POWER DISCONNECTS POWER FROM CUSTOMER WHO WAS ILLEGALLY CONNECTED
City Power Johannesburg has disconnected the power supply to a customer with an outstanding debt and who was illegally connected to the grid at Van Wyk Street in Roodepoort.
The power utility urged customers to ensure timely payment for services and to avoid illegal connections.
In other related news, a business company that owes City Power 1.2 million in revenue has been disconnected again after illegally connecting for the second time.
Vicky Shuping, a member of the Bomb Squad, said that they are going to implement credit control for the business.
“We are going to implement credit control now, and if we find that they have illegally reconnected, we are going to arrest them,” she said.
