The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System kicks off on Wednesday morning in Pretoria, with the South Africa Police Service’s (SAPS’s) commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, set to take the stand as first witness.
The commission, chaired by retired Constitutitional Court justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, was instituted by President Cyril Ramaphosa on 21 July 2025, after explosive corruption allegations by Mkhwanazi earlier in the month.
