President Cyril Ramaphosa is heading to the United States to attend the High-Level Segment of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Ramaphosa will lead the South African delegation in advancing a progressive agenda for a more just, peaceful, and equitable world order.
The event, taking place from Tuesday, 23 September to Monday, 29 September, will be held under the theme “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights.”
SEVERAL MATTERS ON THE AGENDA
Ramaphosa is scheduled to address the Assembly on Tuesday, 23 September. According to the Presidency, his speech will focus on multilateralism, the peaceful resolution of conflicts, and the promotion of human rights. Ramaphosa is expected to carry a strong message from the Global South, underscored by South Africa’s current role as Chair of the G20.
Key international issues, including the genocide in Gaza, conflicts in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the war in Ukraine, and broader geopolitical tensions, are also expected to feature on the agenda.
“South Africa will leverage its proven reputation as a trusted mediator to build bridges between opposing sides and advocate for dialogue over discord,” the Presidency said.
Building on its G20 mandate to shape global economic solutions, South Africa will argue for a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient global economy.

Several ministers, including the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation and the Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga, will accompany Ramaphosa.
