If you live in Nelson Mandela Bay, brace yourself for a major planned power outage this October.
The municipality says the scheduled electricity cuts are part of essential maintenance on critical 132KV power lines aimed at improving long-term reliability.
PLANNED POWER OUTAGE: WHEN WILL IT HAPPEN?
The planned maintenance work will happen in two phases, each running from 08:00 to 16:00:
- Phase 1: Thursday, 1 October 2025 (Alternative date: Wednesday, 8 October 2025)
- Phase 2: Wednesday, 8 October 2025 (Alternative date: Wednesday, 15 October 2025)
WHY THE POWER OUTAGE IS NECESSARY
The municipality says it is replacing 132KV power line insulators after persistent line failures. It hopes to reduce future unplanned outages and strengthen grid stability.

The municipality advises residents and businesses to:
- Treat all electrical installations as live during the outage.
- Charge essential devices in advance.
