Forget cute Santas! Ozempic pen baubles hit the shelves but only those who can afford the price hike will be buying them

DECORATING your Christmas tree may not be something you’ve thought of yet, but shops are quickly getting ready for the festive season.

And with Ozempic and fat-loss jabs taking over the world this year, it only makes sense to put it on your tree too.

There’s no denying that fat loss injections have created a frenzy this year, and the decoration is perfect for future years to reminisce on the trend.

Whether you’re going for traditional red and green decorations or love a novelty tree – the new bauble makes for a hilarious addition to your Christmas decorations.

And the department store Selfridges has just the thing which has led to a mixed response.

Known for their wacky and innovative Christmas tree baubles, Selfridges has made sure to include the new weight loss craze for 2025.

The retailer has an Ozempic pen bauble on sale as Alanis Cooper revealed on social media.

Sharing a video of the selection of the new decs, she wrote: “The jab bauble – Selfridges, what’s going on?”

The baubles feature the distinct light blue packaging of the weight loss jab and even has ‘Ozempic, 1mg’ on the side.

The cheeky decoration is sure to be a talking point when guests see it hanging on the tree.

While some people got the humour, many were left baffled by just how expensive the bauble was, costing an eye-watering £28.

The hefty cost of the Christmas tree decoration might mean only those who could afford the September price hike can splurge on it.

The Sun revealed the price of Mounjaro — dubbed the “King Kong” of fat jabs — could soon soar for UK users, after US manufacturer Eli Lilly announced it was hiking wholesale prices by 170 per cent from September 1.

About 625,000 are now expected to switch to Wegovy, after its manufacturer Novo Nordisk confirmed it will not be raising its prices.

Those paying for private Mounjaro prescriptions will be hit when a typical script costing £150 to £200 rockets to more than £300 if costs are passed on by chemists.

SOCIAL MEDIA REACTS

The video of the festive decoration quickly went viral on TikTok @alaniscooperx with over 59k views and 1.8k likes.

People were quick to take to the comments, with some loving the decoration and others asking what was going on.

One person wrote: “£28.00 that’s almost a weeks worth.”

Another commented: “What on earth.”

“I’m gonna need one of those,” penned a third.

History of Selfridges

The department store was founded in 1908 by US tycoon Harry Selfridge.

The original owner’s publicity stunts, retail genius and saucy scandals were explored in the 2013 ITV series Mr Selfridge.

The store suffered in the Depression and in 1941, Selfridge was forced out of his own firm.

In 2003 the company was bought by another tycoon, Galen Weston, who spent millions on renovations.

Central Group and Rene Benko’s Austrian real estate company, Signa Group, bought Selfridges in 2021 in a deal worth £4 billion.

Then, in November 2023, Thailand’s largest department store owner, Central Group, announced it had taken control of Selfridges department stores.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “Need this.”

“What the helly,” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “Watch some moron try to use it and complain it doesn’t work.”
