World-class car brand rivalling Nissan and Kia is officially on sale in UK

CHERY is finally available to buy in the UK – having already become an international success.

The little-known brand, which offers affordable yet high-quality motors that will look to compete with the likes of Nissan and Kia, has achieved impressive sales figures in markets as diverse as Brazil, Egypt and Indonesia.

Now, the brand is officially available in the UK, with two stylish models to start out with.

Chery Automotive, though, has already made waves with two other brands in the UK as the parent company of Omoda and Jaecoo – which has already made waves with their bargain Range Rover lookalike.

Indeed, both have seen strong sales in the UK, with a combined market share of 2.71% in their first year – outperforming brands like Fiat and Jeep.

Chery has since been introduced as its third, with the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 – both SUVs with petrol and hybrid tech – branded as the “Chery Super Hybrid System”, similar to that used in Omoda and Jaecoo cars.

The Tiggo 7 is particularly interesting, as it targets C-segment SUVs like the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage – both big sellers in the UK.

The Tiggo 8 is larger, offering a seven-seat layout for families, and will likely go after rivals such as the Peugeot 5008, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Audi Q7.

Chery also has ambitious plans, with two more SUVs – the Tiggo 4 and Tiggo 9 – coming within the next six months to expand its lineup.

Aimed at “conventional family buyers,” according to Gary Lan, the brand’s UK CEO, Chery will be positioned as a practical and affordable choice, similar to Volkswagen.

“‘The UK is a crucial market for Chery, and today marks the beginning of an exciting journey for us here,” said Lan at the recent launch event, as per Car Magazine.

“We’re bringing a dynamic range of vehicles that combine advanced technology, safety, and innovative features – all at an accessible price point.

“With our full SUV line-up now confirmed, we’re ready to establish Chery as a clever, confident and happy choice for UK households.”

TIGGO YOUR FANCY?

Chery’s Tiggo 7, available as a petrol or hybrid model – in contrast to the EV-wave often associated with Chinese brands such as BYD – features dual 12.3-inch screens, wireless charging and a generous 426-litre boot.

But it’s the prices that will impress potential buyers, with the base petrol model starting at just £24,995 before going up to £32,995 for the hybrid Summit trim.

The Tiggo 8, meanwhile, is larger in size with a 5+2 seating configuration – with the third row best for children.

It offers upgraded features like massaging front seats, a 15.6-inch display and a 494-litre boot, with prices starting at £28,454 and going up to £36,545 for the hybrid Summit trim.

For now, Chery will sell its two offerings through 25 franchised dealerships, separate from Omoda and Jaecoo.

However, it has plans to expand to 100 dealerships by 2026.

This comes as another Chinese car brand, NIO, recently unveiled a huge SUV that’s packed full of luxury features.

The hulking NIO ES8 is larger than many of its competitors, such as the Range Rover Electric, Volvo EX90 and Kia EV9, with a wheelbase that exceeds three metres – allowing for a spacious interior and a large, 100kWh battery.

NIO, another relatively new Chinese manufacturer that focuses on EVs, officially launched the ES8 this week – although it has yet to be confirmed for the UK, according to Auto Express.

The brand’s giant flagship SUV boasts a dual-motor system with a combined output of 697bhp – enabling a frightening 0 to 62mph acceleration in under four seconds.

Under the CLTC testing scheme, the car offers a range of nearly 400 miles on a single charge.

But it’s the car’s interior which really makes it stand out; with numerous luxurious touches such as quilted upholstery, a split-opening centre console and electric seats for both front and rear passengers.
