He qualified for the Champions League last season and won his opening game in the competition 5-1 over Galatasaray.
And he has now admitted he would like to manage United amid growing pressure on Ruben Amorim.
Toppmoller, 44, told Bild: “Thinking about abroad, I often played computer games as a child, always with one team: Manchester United.
“That would definitely be nice someday, because it’s an extraordinary club.
“When I was a teenager, Manchester United was, along with Real Madrid, the biggest club of all.”
Toppmoller has already rejected one offer from elesehwere – a £6million a year contract at Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.
Meanwhile Amorim relieved a little pressure on his job following a 2-1 win over Chelsea at the weekend.
It came after a week of mounting pressure on the Portuguese to change his system.

Amorim is steadfast in his belief of the 3-4-3 formation and boldly exclaimed United would have to change manager if they wanted to change the system.
Asked if the hierarchy suggested he should reconsider his tactics, he said: “No, no, no. No one. Not even the Pope will change it.
“This is my job. This is my responsibility. This is my life. So, I will not change that.”
