Here’s how to get yours looking brand new again . . .
BRUSH UP: Use a soft brush to remove any dirt or debris stuck to the shoes.
You don’t need a specialist brush, just an old toothbrush will do.
LACE IS ON: Take out the laces and soak them in warm soapy water for an hour or so.
Refresh the water and use your hands to gently squeeze out dirt.
Dry the laces on a warm windowsill. If they are particular grimy, it may be easier to put them inside a pillow case or lingerie bag and give them a gentle machine wash.
FIND A SOLUTION: For normal trainers, add a little laundry detergent to warm water and, with a clean cloth, use it to wipe off dirt.
If there is any suede, don’t use water, instead go over it with a clean soft brush and dab any marks with a little white vinegar on a cloth.
SPLASH OF SODA: For stubborn stains on light or white trainers, baking soda is your secret weapon.
Mix a teaspoon of powder with a similar amount of water.
Again, use an old toothbrush to apply to the shoes.
Leave the solution to work its magic for an hour or so, and then wipe off with a clean damp cloth. Use a toothbrush with some of the baking soda solution to scrub clean the rubber soles of the shoe.
ODOUR AND OUT: To banish odour, take out the inner soles and sprinkle them with dry baking soda, which helps to neutralise bad smells.
For really stinky insides, soak them in a shallow dish with some cheap vodka.
If you want to give them a deeper clean, use warm water mixed with a little laundry detergent.
Use a cloth or old brush to scrub out dirt and then let them dry naturally.
