M60 and M4 closed after ‘serious’ crash and overturned lorry sparking chaos for drivers

MOTORISTS can expect severe delays this morning due to closures on the M60 and M4 following a “serious” crash and an overturned lorry.

Traffic is piling up on both motorways sparking chaos for drivers.

A section of the M60 has been closed off this morning after a “serious” crash in Trafford.

Vehicles are being held between junctions eight at Carrington and nine at Urmston.

This follows a serious collision according to National Highways.

They are currently diverting traffic locally.

A post from Inrix said: “All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident on M60 clockwise from J8 (Carrington) to J9 A5081 Park Way (Trafford Park).

“All traffic stopped around 06:10.”

Meanwhile, the M4 is also experiencing severe delays.

Police have closed the M4 between two junctions following a serious crash involving an overturned lorry in the westbound direction.

Officers were alerted to the incident at around 5am this morning.

Junction 37 (Pyle) and Junction 38 (Margam) will be closed in both directions for some time to allow emergency services access to the road.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “We’re at the scene of a serious collision on the M4 westbound just prior to junction 38.

“The road is currently closed from junction 37 onwards and from junction 38 eastbound so that emergency services can access the incident.

“It is expected to remain closed for some time; please avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. We’re grateful for your patience.”
