HE launched his career with the BBC and since 1998 has never fronted any programme that wasn’t made by the corporation.

But now Louis Theroux has confirmed he’s not just making a new project for Netflix, he’s also presenting it.

That effectively brings to an end 27 years of exclusivity between the Beeb and the acclaimed documentary-maker.

A TV insider said: “Louis is famous for starting out on the BBC with his Weird Weekends show and has stayed with them ever since.

“Even though he started making shows for other channels and streamers, he never fronted them – that was reserved for the Beeb.

“He did two celebrity interview series for them in 2022 and 2023, but ended that after just two series to focus on other projects.”

It won’t be the last show he’ll make for the BBC, of course, but fronting the new Netflix show might be the beginning of the end for his relationship with the corporation.

The new documentary from Louis – now 55 – sees him explores the effect of online misogyny on boys.

It’s the same malign influence explored in the Netflix drama Adolescence starring Owen Cooper as teenager Jamie Miller who was jailed for killing a schoolgirl, devastating his father Eddie, played by Stephen Graham.

DUNBLANE TRAGEDY DOCU

A FILM to mark the 30th anniversary of the Dunblane atrocity will tell the lesser-known story of Britain’s gun culture at the time.

Thomas Watt Hamilton shot dead 16 pupils and their teacher at a primary school in Dunblane on March 13, 1996.

The incident remains the deadliest firearms tragedy in the UK.

The BBC’s powerful document-ary, out next year, will use moving footage and explain how legislative decisions made in the aftermath of the Hungerford shooting in 1987 led to the massacre.

BBC Scotland’s Louise Thornton said: “Our film will seek to shine a light on the courageous story of those who campaigned to get Britain’s gun laws changed.”

RUTH JONES will show actor pal Steve Speirs around her hometown for a new BBC travelogue.

Ruth And Steve: From Porthcawl will include never-seen-before footage from Ruth’s childhood as she talks about life growing up just 20 miles from Gavin & Stacey hotspot Barry Island.

THE BBC has launched a campaign film calling on Israeli authorities to allow international journalists access to Gaza.

David Dimbleby narrates the piece, using news footage to highlight the importance of independent journalism.

The film can be found on iPlayer.
