Singer Danie Botha sorry for ‘Rapture’ fake news: ‘I’m a fool for Jesus’

Despite having “no doubts” just a few days ago, Afrikaans gospel singer Danie Botha has apologised for misleading the public with his prediction of a “Rapture” this week.

The entertainer and lay preacher claimed that “Jesus will return” on 23 or 24 September, marking the end of the world.

The claims were first made by fellow South African pastor Joshua Mhlakela, whose comments made international headlines.

DANIE BOTHA SORRY OVER ‘RAPTURE’ PREDICTION

In a Facebook Live on Thursday, 25 September, Danie Botha apologised to his followers over his comments predicting the Rapture.

Botha claimed he was “disappointed and heartbroken” that his prediction – he claimed was revealed by God himself – did not come to pass.

“I am very, very sorry”, he said. Botha added that he has suffered financial loss.

Although he admitted to getting the date wrong, Botha claimed that there were “signs of the ‘end times’.”

Up until late on Wednesday, Danie Botha told his Facebook followers that the “Rapture” was still possible.

“If the Lord does not come, I have to say sorry to the people. This doesn’t mean I regret what I said at all. My intention was never to offend anyone. If I am a fool, then I’m a fool for Jesus.

PASTOR TO APOLOGISE TOO?

Meanwhile, the public is likely waiting on pastor Joshua Mhlakela – the man who predicted the “Rapture” this week – to also apologise over his claims.

In a short clip posted on the CENTTWINZ TV YouTube channel, Mhlakela claimed that he would address the public on Friday, 25 September, should his prediction not come to pass.

He added: “Everything in me knows I won’t be there. I will be Raptured”.
