Templegate’s bookie-bashing 20-1 and 16-1 tips for the Cesarewitch including one with an ‘excellent engine’

TEMPLEGATE has looked into his crystal ball once more and picked out two appealing ante-post punts for the Cesarewitch.

The 2m2f Newmarket Flat race boasts a massive field and is a beauty for each-way punters.

Nurburgring is a top class dual purpose performer and the Cesarewitch could be exactly to his liking[/caption]

He reveals his two selections – each at a juicy price – below ahead of the race on Saturday, October 11.

BEYLERBEYI (20-1)

I have never been a member of the anti-Jamie Spencer club but I think the veteran jockey overdid the waiting tactics on Ian Williams’ five-year-old at Newbury last time.

He was still miles off the lead passing the three-furlong pole in the Autumn Cup and finished strongly.

But these stayers don’t have the gears to make up that much ground so quickly.

There was plenty in the tank passing the line and he wasn’t helped by being hampered when trying to come through a gap in the closing stages either.

This was over 1m5f so he has a fair bit further to stay in the Cesarewitch but he has an excellent engine and is likely to be switched off again for the first three-quarters of the race.

If he can be given a bit more time to hit top gear, offers of 20-1 look fair enough for an each-way play.

NURBURGRING (16-1)

He may be better known as a chaser these days but NURBURGRING was last seen on the Flat running a belter when second in the Ascot Stakes.

That was a smart effort at the Royal meeting over a punishing 2m4f so Newmarket’s long home straight should play to all his strengths.

He has won jumps races on soft ground and is at home in quicker conditions on the Flat so it shouldn’t matter what the weather does.

The handicapper has been more than reasonable in raising him just 2lb for that excellent Ascot success and he’s been off since the Galway Plate where he never recovered from being hampered early on.

The 16-1 on offer seems fair especially as Joseph O’Brien is an excellent target trainer.
