Mum left ‘shaking with rage’ over school’s ‘punishment’ to her 14-year-old son being off sick & nobody even rang her

A MUM has been left “absolutely livid” by her son’s school’s reaction to him being off sick.

Lisa explained that her 14-year-old son, who’s in year 10 at secondary school, was absent from school for two days because he was “really poorly in bed”.

Despite still not being “100%”, and having to have medicine to go into school, he made it in.

And while they knew he would have to catch up with some schoolwork following his absence, Lisa hadn’t anticipated exactly how the school would react.

However, when it got to the end of the school day, it was only her daughter who returned home.

And when she asked her daughter where her brother was, she said she thought he had “two hours after school” – to “catch up with the work that he hasn’t done whilst he’s been off”.

Fuming, Lisa immediately rang the school to question why nobody had let her know that her son would be kept after school – especially as he’s not allowed to use his phone to call her.

“How is this okay that you can keep my child for an extra two hours after school when he’s been off sick?” she sighed in a video on her TikTok page.

“How can you be punished for that?

“If I was going out to work and I was off sick, they wouldn’t make me make my hours up at work because I’m sick.

“It is what it is. We get poorly!”

The receptionist at the school initially couldn’t find Lisa’s son, as he “wasn’t on the detention list”, but said she’d ring her back as soon as she’d located him.

While Lisa then started to get ready to go down to the school to give them a piece of her mind, she was then called back to say that they’d located him, and he’d had to “stay behind and do his work”.

What made things even worse was that Ollie had an inset day the following day – meaning he would have been at home and could have caught up on his work then.

“I’m honestly so angry,” she raged.

“My blood is boiling. He is my child.

“You can’t keep my child without letting me know.

“He’s meant to finish at a certain time – I expect him home at a certain time!

“Oh I’m just so fuming.”

The comments section was immediately filled with people weighing in, with the majority insisting Lisa was perfectly within her rights to be angry about the situation.

“Honestly your kids’ school sounds horrific! I would be absolutely fuming!” one wrote.

“Good for you for going collect him,” another added.

“The school are trying to control our kids now.. that will never happen on my watch.”

“Just de-registered my 14 year old daughter from her school because of their ridiculous rules and policies,” a third commented.

“School system these days is absolutely shocking!”
