Ryder Cup champion, 35, now working ‘dream’ job as a travel agent after beating Tiger Woods and REJECTING prize money

RYDER CUP champion Victor Dubuisson is now working his “dream” job after quitting golf.

The Frenchman retired from the sport two years ago to take up a travel agent role in Tenerife.

But he did come out of retirement earlier this year to win the Biarritz Cup on the Alps Tour.

Dubuisson rejected the £40,000 prize money on offer, having always stated he plays golf for the winning feeling – not for financial gain.

That is perhaps why he quit playing professional golf full-time, preferring to impart his wisdom on budding players instead.

He now works as a travel agent delivering bespoke training packages to golfers at a luxury resort in Tenerife, Abama Golf, a move he could not be happier with.

Dubuisson told Bunkered: “It’s a dream here. The weather, the golf course. A dream.

“I’ve had a very warm welcome here.

“We have an amazing academy, a 350-yard range, wedging area. It’s the best place I’ve seen in my life for practising.

“I spend time with many different people every week and I’ve made many new friends.

“When you spend a week with people you get to know them. I’ve met many, many nice people and it’s a completely different life.”

Life used to look a lot different for Dubuisson, who won four titles on the European Tour, including beating Tiger Woods clinch his first professional win at the 2013 Turkish Open.

He also played a big part in Team Europes Ryder Cup win in 2014.

Paired with Graeme McDowell, the duo beat Phil Mickelson and current captain Keegan Bradley, before defeating James Walker and Rickie Fowler.

Dubuisson took his points tally to 2.5 as he drew with Zach Johnson in the singles rounds, helping Europe defend their crown following the Miracle at Medinah two years prior.

That tournament still holds a special place for Dubuisson who was asked what his career highlight is.

He respodned: “The Ryder Cup, for sure. It was amazing, the feeling of playing the Ryder Cup.

“It’s a completely different tournament. I won in Turkey, played many majors, played well at the US PGA in Valhalla, made many top-tens, but this was completely different.

“You feel much more stress, but it’s a good stress. I was very nervous the day before starting but when you’re on the course you don’t feel nervous.

“You are in your small bubble and you focus. The day before it was difficult to sleep. It’s completely different than playing for ourselves.

“It’s the best feeling, but it can be the worst feeling if you miss. The feeling is multiplied because you play for a team. We are not used to it in golf.”
