Up to 10 of its bakeries have been fitted with the tech, which allows punters to browse the menu, order and pay via a touch screen.

The test is still in the very early stages of development and is understood to have been rolled out this year.

It is not guaranteed that all of its bakeries will be fitted with the technology when the trial ends.

And it is also worth noting that punters can still go up to the till to pay and place an order with staff.

A handful of Gregg lovers have already spotted the change at their local branch.

One punter said: “Ordering without having my pronunciation of mocha being judged? Sounds good to me.”

And another added: “You can still order at the till and use these, so I don’t see the problem? I prefer using a screen so I can check the whole menu.”

Self-service screens are becoming a common feature at fast food joints across the UK.

McDonald’s has offered the service since around 2015, with KFC also offering it as an option since 2017.

Healthy cafe chain Leon also offers the service for customers.

It is the latest shake-up from the no-frills bakery.

Greggs has ditched self-serve fridges in a number of stores to try to tackle soaring shoplifting rates.

Items such as sandwiches and bottled drinks have been moved behind the counter in at least five of its branches.

It followed a Sun investigation which showed that brazen thieves were targeting some shops every 20 minutes.
