ROBERT MacINTYRE was the target of abuse from American trash talkers as the Scotsman failed to complete a morning whitewash for Europe.
MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland had roared back from three-down after 11 holes to square their match against Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.

But MacIntyre had to pull away from his tee shot at the short 17th when an American fan was heard shouting “you bloody w***er” – a swearword not in common usage on this side of the Atlantic.
MacIntyre, defending an unbeaten Ryder Cup record from his maiden outing in Rome two years ago, then found the sand at the side of the green.
And to rub salt into the wound, the Americans won the crucial hole to go 1up heading to the 18th.
MacIntyre labelled President Donald Trump as “just one more spectator” in a pre-match interview.
And the 29-year-old Scot had already been the victim of jibes before his first tee shot.
This year’s US Open runner-up was told to “do some cardio” and asked whether he had “ever been for a run”.
Europe’s Vik and Bob duo then made a complete hash of the final hole.
That allowed Schauffele and Cantlay to win their match by two.
The vast majority of the crowd at Bethpage Black had converged on the final match after Europe roared into a 3-0 lead.
Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton then Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick wrapped up their 4&3 and 5&3 respective wins on the 15th green.

Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood only needed 14 holes, however, to see off Collin Morikawa and Harris English in a 5&4 pasting.
Europe had never managed a whitewash of the opening session of a Ryder Cup on American soil.
So MacIntyre’s distraction helped to avert a historic achievement.

THE 45th Ryder Cup takes place from September 26-28 with the US team desperate to wrestle back the crown from Europe.
Scottie Scheffler and the American side will battle Rory McIlroy’s European team in New York.
The infamous Bethpage Black course will be the venue for the latest edition of the pulsating golf tournament.
NBC will broadcast the competition in it’s entirety in the United States.
Friday’s foursomes and fourballs will be live on USA Network from 7 am ET to 6 pm ET.
Saturday’s action will take place during the same hours live on NBC.
And Sunday’s singles will also be on NBC from 12 pm ET to 6 pm ET.
