Lewis Hamilton pulls out of Ferrari tyre test to be with sick dog Roscoe

Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has withdrawn from a scheduled Ferrari tyre test in Mugello in Italy, to be by the side of his beloved bulldog, Roscoe, who is currently in a coma.

In an emotional post on Instagram on Friday, the 40-year-old British driver shared that Roscoe had been hospitalised with pneumonia and suffered a cardiac arrest during treatment.

“Roscoe caught pneumonia again and was struggling to breathe,” Hamilton wrote.

“He was admitted into hospital and sedated… during the process his heart stopped. They managed to get a heartbeat back and now he’s in a coma. We don’t know whether he will wake from this.”

Roscoe, whom Hamilton adopted in 2013, has long been a fixture in the driver’s life – even attending Grand Prix events – and has a strong following of his own, boasting 1.3 million followers on Instagram.

Messages of support

Hamilton was scheduled to take part in a tyre test with Ferrari, but was replaced by reserve driver Zhou Guanyu.

The Briton most recently competed in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where he finished eighth.

Hamilton lies sixth in the 2025 Formula One standings with 121 points, 44 adrift of Ferrari team-mates Charles Leclerc and 203 behind overall leader, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri.

His move to Ferrari marked the end of a historic partnership with Mercedes.

Hamilton’s fans and fellow drivers have shared messages of support on social media, hoping for Roscoe’s recovery.

The next Formula One race is scheduled for Singapore on Sunday, 5 October.
