A RARE lion that starred on a popular Channel 4 show has died at one of the UK’s biggest zoos.
Iblis the Asiatic lion was found dead aged 18 at Chester Zoo.
He was described as capturing “the hearts of millions with his regal, majestic presence” during the 15 years he spent living at the zoo.
Iblis outlived the usual lifespan of this breed of lion, with most males often only reaching 16 years of age.
This impressive big cat is one of the world’s rarest, with less than 900 thought to be alive in the wild.
Iblis has also featured in a Channel 4 documentary, The Secret Life of the Zoo.
Head of Mammals at Chester Zoo Mark Brayshaw said: “His long and full life is a true reflection not only of the incredible care and love shown to him by our dedicated Carnivore Team, but also of the enriched environment they created for him.
“He spent his years thriving, enjoying his surroundings and leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
“His absence will be especially felt by those who shared in his wonderful journey.”
