Not only does Christine Kestello get irritated by a common packing mistake, but it grinds her gears when people make complaints about the weather too[/caption]
Christine is a content creator and a former Cruise Director[/caption]
Not only this, but she also got candid on the irritating thing people do that really grinds her gears – and it’s all to do with the weather.
Posting on social media, Christine, who doesn’t have to pay a single penny in rent whilst on board, said: “Here are six things that annoy me about cruise ship passengers.”
Hiding ducks
First things first, Christine acknowledged that she can’t stand it when customers get annoyed when people hide ducks on a cruise ship.
She explained: “There are people that love hiding ducks and there are people that hate hiding ducks – now, if you don’t know what ducks are, they’re these little tiny plastic ducks and they hide them and people find them.
“I can’t stand people that get their feathers in a tilly because someone’s hiding a duck and someone’s getting some joy from finding it.
“If you want to hide ducks on a cruise ship, you hide those ducks.”
Dress codes
Secondly, Christine, who gets all her food for free whilst on board, shared her distaste for passengers who comment on what others are wearing.
She added: “Some people like to dress up on a cruise ship, some people like to dress down on a cruise ship.
“Everyone cruises their own way – but why are we getting upset if two tables away, Bruce is wearing jeans to dinner?
“I can tell you what, when I’m sitting having my wonderful five course meal, I don’t care what the person next to me is wearing, unless they’re wearing no clothes.
“Focus on yourself, focus on what you’re wearing and have a great time.”
Cruise ship misconceptions
As well as this, the content creator, who is currently travelling the world, discussed the reputation and misconceptions of particular cruises.
Christine highlighted: “As someone that’s on social media all of the time, I see a lot of people saying that there’s different classes of people that cruise the different cruise ships.
“And Carnival Cruise Line gets quite a bad rap sometimes, but as someone in the industry, I can tell you, there are a lot of wealthy people that cruise Carnival Cruise Lines.
Stop packing for cruises like you’re packing for camping
Christine Kestello
“As a former Cruise Director and as someone that has probably taken more cruises than 99.9% of you – just because you cruise a certain brand or company, it doesn’t mean you’re wealthy or not wealthy.
“But I will say, if you choose to do a three to four day cruise to the Bahamas, most likely it’s a booze cruise and you are probably gonna get a little bit of riff raff and a whole lot of fun.”
Weather complaints
Not only this, but the blonde beauty then revealed the thing passengers often do that she can’t stand.
She stressed: “Do not, under any circumstance go to the front desk and complain if we miss a port due to weather.
Pros and cons of going on a cruise ship
Whether you’re considering a long holiday, working remotely or even living on board a cruise ship for a few months or years, here are the pros and cons from a former cruise shipper.
Pros
- Travel the world, learn and experience new cultures
- Meet new people
- Don’t have to think or worry about room cleaning, or food
Cons
- Internet connection can be painfully slow and expensive
- Limited luggage allowance so have to wear the same clothes on rotation
- Having no control of where the ship would go next and the possibility of visiting the same ports
- Having the same onboard entertainment, on-demand movies, and little choice of TV channels
- No fresh newspapers or new books unless someone adds them to the library
- Relatively the same food week after week unless major menu changes occur seasonally.
- Occasional rough seas, bad weather and viral outbreaks while inboard.
“You can’t control the weather and neither can the captain.
“Weather happens and if you don’t like a disrupt to travel, well, then you’re not a traveller, because a traveller knows that you can make plans, but it’s up to the universe whether those plans are going to be met.
“Now, you can be disappointed, but you can’t be upset at the cruise line.”
Cruise ship myths
Following this, Christine set the record straight on myths about cruise ships.
She confirmed: “There are so many myths about cruise ships – cruise ships are mysterious, and one of the things a lot of people like to talk about is what our cruise ship employees are being paid.
“Fact number one is, yes, cruise ship employees work a lot of hours.
As an avid cruiser, YES TO All of this!

“Fact number two, they can’t work more than a certain set of hours.
“Number three, a lot of you forget about currency conversion – for some employees, what they make per month would take them three to four months back home to earn.”
Packing mistake
Finally, Christine shared the packing mistake people always make – and it annoys her no end.
She advised: “Stop packing for cruises like you’re packing for camping.
Are cruise ship staff allowed to sleep with guests?
Sleeping with the guests is strictly prohibited on board cruise ships, with strict consequences for any member of staff caught copulating with a tourist – but that doesn’t stop it happening.
One ship worker, who worked on a Celebrity Cruises boat, explained: “Fraternisation with passengers is strictly forbidden – any crew member even suspected of being with a guest is asking for big trouble.”
He went on to explain that the rules were put into place “after a number of incidents of guests utilizing a variation of the ‘honey trap’.”
“Guests would lure unsuspecting crew to their cabins, sleep with them and then the next day claim sexual assault and filing lawsuits against the cruise line,” he said.
However, another former cruise ship musician said that fraternising with holidaymakers is so commonplace that staff even have a special term for it.
“We call sleeping with passengers ‘coning’ as passengers were ‘cones’,” he said.
“We know the all the nooks and crannies the cameras don’t reach.”
“Most of you are cruising between three and seven days – remember, a cruise ship is just a floating hotel, you don’t need all of those things that people are trying to sell you.
“Now, with that said, you do you. You cruise your way, you travel your way, I’m just saying, the cruise ship, it’s a floating hotel.
“If you wouldn’t bring these things to a hotel, why are you bringing them to a cruise ship?”
Social media users react
Christine’s TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @dutchworld_americangirl, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 439,400 views, 21,200 likes and 647 comments.
Many agreed with Christine and raced to the comments to share their thoughts.
One user beamed: “Facts girl, say it loud.”
Another is being rude to the staff…not ok!
