The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) and the police divers are searching for a missing teenager who fell off a rock and into the water in Bakoven in Cape Town on the weekend.
The 18-year-old teenager, was hanging out with friends at the Bakoven Beach rocks in the early hours of Saturday morning, 27 September, when the incident occurred.
The group alerted emergency services of the missing teenager after he reportedly fell off the rocks and was swept away in the water.
High tide in Bakoven led to teen missing in water
“Shoreline patrols and investigations along rocks and in the area around Bakoven revealed no signs of the teenager.
“It became increasingly evident that he may have slipped off rocks into the water during the incoming high tide,” said NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon.
The teenager from Delft is still missing despite an extensive air, sea, and shoreline rescue effort, added Lambinon.
Police are investigating the case of the missing teen.
Sea rescue efforts are ongoing.
In a separate incident, the South African reported that a 35-year-old woman drowned in Victoria Bay, George, on 28 September.
She was swimming with a man along the shoreline of Victoria Bay when they appeared to be in distress.
The man alighted from the water. Witnesses found the woman floating face down. Efforts to resuscitate her proved fruitless, and she was declared dead at the scene.
Police have opened an inquest docket into the drowning.
