The start was nothing short of a scare. Orlando Pirates’ win over Polokwane City in the MTN8 was followed by back-to-back league defeats to Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants.
Since then, the former AS Vita coach has driven the Buccaneers to eight consecutive victories across all competitions.
In addition to the MTN8 title, Orlando Pirates marched into the CAF Champions League last 32 in style with a 7-0 aggregate win over Lioli.
ABDESLAM OUADDOU DELIVERS AT ORLANDO PIRATES
So, has it been all about his coaching wizardry? No. Ouaddou has credited the success to both trust and teamwork from the hierarchy.
“I didn’t change anything, I just trusted the work I’m doing, the values I put into my work, the love I put in my job, the love I give my players, and what is important as well is the trust of my club, because without trust of your management, the board, it’s difficult,” Ouaddou told journalists.
Ouaddou thanked the club for the trust they had shown, explaining that he held numerous team and individual conversations to build confidence and clearly communicate his expectations on how the players should perform in attack, defence, transitions, and set-pieces.
The former Fulham central defender highlighted the strength of his support system, saying he has a fantastic team around him, including skilled South African staff. He stressed that he is not working alone and gave credit to his technical team, reminding that success at the club involves many departments, not just the coach.
